Kagamine Rin was born on December 27, along with her twin brother Len. A few days after their birth, Rin was taken away to be the next Diva after Teto's death. A Diva is a girl chosen to sing to keep the dragon(Miku) calm so it will not attack the country.

Before her arrival on becoming the next Diva, she was given a necklace in the shape of a treble cleft. This shows to be her only connection to the outside world, and her only connection to Len, who has in possession a bass cleft necklace. She then later learned that she had to sing to keep the dragon at rest. She sang so much that she started to cough up blood from her hoarse voice. But she was to persistant and never gave up singing.

As she got older, she would dream of seeing Len and communicate with him through dreams. Each time they met in their dreams, she sung to him and they become closer and closer, making up for lost times. She also had the hope of being saved by him.

Finally, when Rin meets Len after he had slain the dragon, she tearfully embraces him, showing him that she's truly happy to be reunited with her brother, her savior.
